ZWANGERE GUY

People who have recently seen Zwangere Guy on stage or on some screen will agree: he doesn't look that pregnant anymore. Guy-but-actually-Gorik has given birth to his sixth solo album: ‘Dit is Guy’ (2025). Six albums! That's the kind of number that drunk uncles say: five more and you've got a football team.  ‘Dit is Guy’ constantly shifts between pogo and cuddle, between jumping and moving. We would have loved to read his self-written New Year's letters from his fifth year of study. There's not a hair on our grey heads that doubts that they too are full of observations and vocabulary full of rawness, honesty, anger and vulnerability. When Zwangere Guy raps, he still sounds like the most efficient machine gun FN never made. However, when he sings, as he does more and more often, the board of directors of the Lokerse Feesten promptly meets in a nearby drinking establishment to decide on the question: does Gorik van Oudheusden have what it takes to become the new Jacques Brel? Raymond and Arno are equally valid alternatives, if only to prolong the conversation for another three pints.  Lyrically, ZG has definitely outgrown the Jupiler Pro League or the Europa League; the Champions League of European hip hop is where the man goes to battle. Those lyrics, then, are of an almost unheard-of standard in this country. We sincerely believe that thousands of Dutch-speaking young people would benefit more from songs such as “Gorik pt.2”, “NIEMAND” or “Lege Fles” than from yet another lesson in ethics or religion. So, on Thursday 6 August, Zwangere Guy will do what he has done many times before in this Durmestede: walk onto the stage, grab the microphone, completely outclass the Grote Kaai, give a masterclass in hip-hop moshing and leave you feeling like a different person for at least 24 hours. This is Guy, he shouts. G for Great and Genius, and Ge is coming that Thursday too, right?  U stands for Sold Out? We think so, and Y stands for Yo! MTV Raps!, the legendary MTV programme that in 2026 would have loved to send a camera crew to Meiser, Haachtsesteenweg, Vossenplein or Grote Zavel to introduce Americans to the unique phenomenon that is Zwangere Guy.
