We're not going to waltz around it and just tell it to you like it is: BILL RYDER-JONES is what is called a singer-songwriter. Singer-songwriters are songwriters who travel from border to border without a crew of 500 drunken tattooed people, without fireworks and without double bass drums. Singer-songwriters sing and play, and when they are really good, like Ryder-Jones, they stir your heart like the first spring sun and accompanying finch song. We're not going to waltz around it and just tell it to you like it is: BILL RYDER-JONES is what is called an introvert. Typical of singer-songwriters we suspect. You won't see him shouting and ranting in the lounges at Manchester City, you won't see him shouting out his songs in the passenger seat next to James Corden either. What you can do is see him perform and put so much passion and bitter beauty in his voice, after which the world will automatically become a better place for several weeks. For years he helped build the ongoing pop genius that his band The Coral bestowed on the world, since 2011 he has been working on a unique discography full of enchantment and timeless class. His latest record "Iechyd Da" (2024), for example, features, and we say this while weighing these printed words, the most beautiful song ("This can't go on") we've heard already this year.
