IJSLAND
There was a time when we, the quiz team of the Lokerse Feesten, faithfully trudged to group therapy every week. Why? Because we once lost a prestigious quiz due to one stupid question: what is the name of the Icelandic volcano that treated the whole of Europe to a layer of dust in 2010? For years afterwards, when we were enjoying a pint after our weekly meetings, all it took was for one person to say, “Do you remember?”, and the evening would end in a group hug and a quickly wiped away tear. The good news is that nowadays we no longer associate ICELAND with a strange country where all last names end in -sson or -dottir, or with a completely unique Dutch hip-hop duo. Their names are Sef and Abel, and separately they are probably decent lads who always give way to traffic coming from the right and give standing old ladies on a packed tram a high five. But put them together in a studio and before you know Sef and Abel's surnames by heart, they'll have produced a unique, hard-hitting and anarchistic hip-hop album. Incendiary? Man, Rage Against The Machine sounds like the choir of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Schilde compared to this combo. Humour, barking lyrics and a vocabulary full of provocation, all delivered with a musical barrage that makes it impossible to stand still. Iceland has released two albums: “Iceland” (2024) and “Iceland 2” (2026). Head over to Spotify and turn it up so loud that those old Joepie posters finally get blown off your wall. Want to experience this musical volcanic eruption in Lokeren? Come to our Club on Thursday 6 August and... Wait, did someone say volcano? Oh well, never mind, that ruined the mood.
