We had a good laugh when we asked Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, what it could tell us about SPFDJ.  “Well,” it replied, “it was a tough day for the vowels when Swedish techno DJ Lina Jonsson (her ID card no doubt reads Ln Jnssn) chose a stage name. Otherwise, the word ‘hard’ really stands out. ‘Hard techno’, ‘hardgroove’, ‘UK hard house’ and we might have dreamt this, but we think it also said ‘Fucking hard not to go wild to the hard thumping of SPFDJ’.  Lina/SPFDJ, for instance, isn’t averse to a Thunderdome classic now and then, has made a name for herself as part of Berlin’s Herrensauna, and is being touted as a two-turntable-wielding modern-day Joan of Arc of the queer techno scene. Rummaging through all sorts of record bins, we found one release: the 2025 EP ‘Heel thyself’, and believe it or not, it’s really quite strong. No, this isn’t the sort of music they use in music school to teach you DoReMi, but if you want to let your hair down until you can’t utter a single vowel, this is the one for you!
